Nkem Owoh’s Speech and Other Emotional Moments From the Humour Awards’ 2nd Edition (The Dream The Glory)

The highly anticipated second edition of The Humour Awards (THA), dubbed “The Dream The Glory,” was a resounding success.

The event, which took place on January 15, 2023, lived up to its billing through quality attendance, near-flawless, powerful speeches, music, comedy of all forms, and other entertainment displays.

The event, held at the eminent Eko Hotels Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, was yet another phenomenal celebration of some outstanding achievers in the comedy industry who were in attendance or well-represented to receive their well-deserved awards.

Four moments, however, elicited strong reactions from the audience. The following is a list of emotional moments from The Humour Awards, 2nd edition:

Nkem Owoh says he has never been inducted into a Hall of Fame or received a humour-related Award:

The veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known for his authentic theatrics with comedy in the Nigerian movie industry, was one of the Hall of Fame honorary award category recipients.

When he came up stage to receive his plaque, fans in attendance did not let him leave without expressing how he felt about the recognition, as they cheered him on.

The comic maestro opened up to say that this was the first time in all his creative years to be awarded a Hall of Fame award, and to add to it, one that concerns comedy.

In Osuofia’s words, he said, “I have never won a Hall of Fame award before, not to mention the one that involves humour. So I believe that after this, I will find myself somewhere and soak my conscience in alcohol”.

MC Danfo reveals that Nkem Owoh has been his adopted father for ten years:

The fast-rising comic musician MC Danfo disclosed during his melodic performance that he lived with Nkem Owoh for 10 years.

MC Danfo also claimed that he discovered the skill of music comedy under Osuofia’s roof during his youthful years while in pursuit of joining the entertainment industry.

Ada Ameh’s daughter resurrects:

The late comic actress Ada Ameh was honoured posthumously by the Humour Awards for her luminous contribution to the growth of the industry.

Surprisingly, a family member of the late actress, who identified herself as her daughter, was on stage to receive the golden trophy.

The young lady appreciated the Humour Awards for celebrating her “fierce and courageous” mother even in death.

The audience was stunned when the young woman who received Ada Ameh’s award said she was the deceased daughter.

Those familiar with the actress were aware of the terrible death of her only daughter in 2020. So, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that Ada Ameh has an adopted daughter who can passionately speak of her remarkable impact among the living.

All the nominees for “Best Music Comedian”  join to honour Kabusa Choir:

The popular internet music group Kabusa was named the Best Music Comedian of the Year, a category that pitted them against Kenny Blaq, Kelvin Sapp, Josh Too Funny, and MC Danfo.

When the Kabusa Choir was announced as the winner, the other nominees in the same category graciously escorted the music group to the podium, sharing in their joy and celebrating their well-deserved victory.

While they were on stage, they all did what they knew how to do best—the skill of creating humour on any given occasion that made the audience tear up in laughter.
